GEO Score

Your GEO score is the single most important number in Appearly. It's your overall AI visibility rating, calculated from 5 weighted dimensions:

Dimension Weight What it measures
Recognition 20% How often AI engines mention your brand
Recommendation 20% How often they actively recommend you
Presence 20% Where you appear in the response (position)
Sentiment 30% Whether the tone is positive, neutral, or negative
Share of Voice 10% Your mention share vs competitors

A score above 60 is strong. Below 30 needs urgent attention.

Recognition

Recognition measures the percentage of AI responses that mention your brand at all.

If you track 6 keywords across 4 engines, that's 24 queries. If your brand appears in 18 of them, your Recognition score is 75%. Higher is better: it means AI engines know you exist.

Recommendation

Recommendation goes beyond being mentioned. It tracks how often AI engines actively recommend your product as a solution to the user's question.

Being mentioned is good. Being recommended is what drives conversions. This is the strongest signal of AI endorsement.

Presence

Presence measures your average position when you are mentioned. Being first in an AI response is worth more than being fifth.

  • 1st position: 100 points
  • 2nd position: 80 points
  • 3rd position: 60 points
  • 4th and beyond: decreasing

This matters because users typically focus on the first few suggestions an AI engine provides, just like the first page of Google results.

Sentiment

Sentiment analyzes the tone when AI engines mention your brand. It carries the highest weight in your GEO score at 30%, because a negative mention can be worse than no mention at all.

  • Positive ("excellent", "highly recommended"): 100 points
  • Neutral: 50 points
  • Negative ("limited", "concerns about"): 0 points

If your Sentiment score is low, check the Perception tab to understand what themes are driving the negative tone.

Share of Voice

Share of Voice compares your mention frequency against tracked competitors. It tells you what percentage of the AI conversation in your space belongs to you.

If your brand is mentioned in 10 out of 24 responses and the top competitor in 8, you're winning the Share of Voice battle. A higher share means AI engines consider you a more prominent player in your space.

To improve Share of Voice, focus on the keywords where competitors outperform you. The Competitors tab shows you exactly where those gaps are.
